History of Western Music
If we talk about music, it has witnessed a significant amount of change. Across the world there are different genres of music- pop, rock, hip-hop, ballad, and jazz. It was in 50s that some unruly youth created their own style of music- Rock Music. This music was definitely different and instantly became a rage. It was different because at that time smooth music was considered to be the main genre. The rock music was not only confined to a specific area as it was accepted around the world.
Rock music alone got divided in sub-genres like- smooth rock, hard rock, hip-hop rock etc. In the beginning only the unruly kind of music was famous but with the changing times the rock music also underwent major alterations. The rock music comprises of a lead vocalist, guitars, drums, and a keyboard player (optional). Some of the famous artists which were mainly listened to were- Motown, Mick Jagger, The Doors, Led Zappelin, Black Sabbath, The Beach Boys etc. Elvis Presely also played an important role in making the rock music famous with his famous song- Jailhouse Rock.
Bob Dylan also made an impact amongst the youth and he made songs on civil rights. The Beach Boys also played an important role in changing the scene of rock music as they brought a new flavor to the rock music. It was in the mid 50s that the rock and roll was started by the black people. This kind of music mainly included of vocal harmonies and it was also liked by the people across the world. In the 60s bands like Rolling Stones came into scene and they contributed considerably to the field of rock music. Then came The Beatles and till date they are known as the most successful rock bands in the history of music.
Currently, there are rock bands like Metallica, Limp Bizkit, Bryan Adams, Aerosmith, Puddle of Mudd, Linkin Park who are topping the rock charts across the world.
